Meet Dr. Drew C. Rodney
As a native of Portland, Maine, I join Southern Maine Dental after working in the technology sector of web design and programming in California, then here in Maine. Wanting to meet new challenges and serve local communities more, I chose to explore new horizons in the medical field through dentistry. The rewards of providing comprehensive dental care, while applying medical concepts and technical knowledge to treatments, has become my passion and calling.
I spent my 12-week rotation for UNE in Bath, Maine at the fast-paced Jessie Albert Dental Center, providing greatly needed care to an underserved area, focusing on public health dentistry with an emphasis on pediatric care and inhalation sedation. As an active member in student leadership, I served on the executive boards of student government, the Student Professionalism & Ethics Association and the Graduate & Professional Student Association at UNE, which taught me even more about collaborating with colleagues and organizing community projects.
I enjoy enhancing smiles through dentistry, oral health education, and community outreach, building rapport with patients through careful planning and communicating treatment options thoughtfully. I am pleased to be accepting new patients in the Greater Southern Maine community to continue preserving the oral health and happiness of so many people through dentistry.

In the dental profession, there is a strong emphasis on lifelong learning, especially here at Southern Maine Dental, since the advancement of research-based evidence, technology and dental materials is perpetual. It also serves as a wonderful opportunity to connect with and learn from fellow colleagues who have become lifelong friends. In addition to being involved in local study groups with my fellow colleagues, my most recently completed CE courses include a 2-day course in CAD-CAM dentistry training on the E4D system at PlanmecaFIT in Dallas, TX, as well as Advanced Crown Preparation Techniques by Glidewell, Viva Learning’s Life-Like Composite Restorations, Streamlining Prosthetic Dentistry, and Secrets of Implant Dentistry (Viva Learning), as well as Digital Implant Dentistry Planning at Yankee Dental Congress in Boston, MA.
At UNE, there is a strong culture of outreach, so I had the privilege of working on several projects to benefit the local community in Southern Maine, including providing dental resources and education to The Family Crisis Services Women’s Shelter in Portland, participating in Annual Cram the Van Clothing Drives for The Milestone Foundation Shelters & Recovery, volunteer assisting at the Oasis Free Dental Clinic in Bath, and providing free dental care at the Annual Dentists Who Care for ME events. At Southern Maine Dental, we look forward to continuing to sponsor local charities and sporting events to help foster future generations. As a way to stay involved in two of my favorite pastimes, gymnastics and music, I have enjoyed coaching in Santa Ana, CA at South Coast Gymnastics, and music at Temecula Valley School of Music and the Arts for many years.
With a large and close-knit family right here in Maine, I enjoy spending time with relatives and friends, attending all the many gatherings, birthdays and barbecues. My hobbies include fitness, making music, coaching gymnastics, cooking, foreign languages and reading.
